Effective Date: October 15, 2026·Version 4.2·Reader Agreement

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between The Russian Issues (the "Publication", "we", "us", or "our") and you (the "Reader" or "you") governing your access to and use of our website at therussianissues.com, our newsletters, dispatches, archives, and any related digital services (collectively, the "Services").

By browsing, reading, subscribing, or otherwise using any part of the Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately discontinue your use of the Services.

2. License to Read & Share

Subject to your continued compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and display the Services for your personal, non-commercial reading.

You may:

  • Read, view, and privately store articles for your own personal use.
  • Share individual article links to third parties, provided the link directs back to the original page on our Services.
  • Quote brief excerpts for purposes of commentary, criticism, or review, with clear attribution to The Russian Issues and a link to the source.

You may not:

  • Republish, redistribute, syndicate, or commercially exploit any article, image, or content without prior written consent.
  • Scrape, mirror, frame, or systematically extract data from the Services by automated means.
  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or attribution notice attached to our content.

3. Acceptable Use & Conduct

You agree to use the Services lawfully and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of, or restrict the use of, the Services by any third party. In particular, you agree not to:

  • Use the Services to transmit any unlawful, harassing, defamatory, hateful, or otherwise objectionable material.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Services, our systems, or any account that is not your own.
  • Introduce or attempt to introduce viruses, malware, or any other malicious code into the Services.
  • Interfere with the proper functioning of the Services, including overloading, crashing, or disabling any feature.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity.

4. Intellectual Property & Copyright

All content published on the Services — including articles, headlines, photographs, illustrations, graphics, logos, audio, video, page layouts, and the overall look and feel of the site — is owned by or licensed to The Russian Issues and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws.

The name The Russian Issues, our masthead, and our associated marks are trademarks of the Publication. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right or license to use our trademarks, names, or trade dress without our prior written consent.

Unauthorized reproduction, distribution, or creation of derivative works from our content is a violation of applicable law and may result in civil and criminal penalties.

5. Editorial Disclaimer

The Russian Issues is committed to accuracy and rigorous editorial standards. However, our reporting — including historical analysis, conflict coverage, and commentary — is provided for informational and educational purposes only.

The Services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability, or timeliness of any content.

Any reliance you place on our content is strictly at your own risk. We do not provide legal, financial, medical, or professional advice, and no part of the Services should be treated as a substitute for such advice.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall The Russian Issues, its officers, editors, correspondents, contributors, affiliates, or service providers be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Services.

Because some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain liabilities, the above limitations may not apply to you to the extent prohibited by law.

7. Third-Party & Linked Content

The Services may contain links to third-party websites, services, or resources that are not owned or controlled by us. We provide these links for convenience and do not endorse, and are not responsible for, the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party site.

Your use of any third-party site is governed by its own terms and privacy policy. We encourage you to review those terms before providing any personal information to a third party.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or the nature of our Services. When we do, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page.

Your continued use of the Services after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

9. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

We will make every reasonable effort to resolve any dispute informally. If a dispute cannot be resolved through good-faith discussion, it shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
